Sodom, Gomorrah, Homosexuality and Rape
Did God Destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because their inhabitants were gay OR because they were violent sexual predators who attempted to rape two of God's Angels?

To assert that homosexuality is sexual deviancy is for one to admit that they themself have gay tendencies, as well as the power to choose which sex that person is attracted to.
As for me, there's not a person or thing in this world that could ever "turn me gay", and I see no reason to believe that gays have any more control over their sexual preference than do heterosexuals.
Furthermore, at least two extensive twin studies suggest overwhelmingly that homosexuality is a recessesive genetic trait that is passed along through mitochondrial DNA. If this is so, what gives a man (or woman) the right to condemn another one of Almighty God's creations as being inherently evil?
The biblical tale of Sodom and Gomorrah does not necessarily logically support the common Christian notion that the story is proof of God's disdain for homosexuality. Being gay and participating in gang-rapes are two very different things. The Sodomites were not only gay, they were sexual predators who attacked in groups. How so many have come to see only the man-on-man sex being condemned by the Bible is a mystery to me. Two gay people engaging in consensual sex has no impact on my life whatsoever. The Sodomites were rapists --- and it is a major stretch to conclude that "God hates gays" based upon that particular story in the Bible. To conclude that "God hates rape" would make for a much stronger argument if one were seeking to draw theological conclusions from that one particular story.
To take it a step further: Not only did the Sodomites attempt to rape other men, they tried to rape two Angels sent by God to investigate the cities. It's not like the Angels were having a beer at the local tavern and were subjected to a few unwanted advances by interested men who then left them alone upon being rejected. Those savages were trying to break down the door of Lot's home to get at the Angels so they could have their way with them!
When I read that story, I see the fact that the intercourse would not have been consensual had it occurred as the most serious crime and sin. The second-worst sin I observe when I read that story is Lot's throwing of his virgin daughters under the bus and offering them to the savages as gang-rape fodder. Certainly that must be a greater sin than following the sexual propensities encoded by God into one's DNA. Am I wrong about this?
Author's Note: I am a practicing Christian who thinks for himself and accepts no human's word as infallible. I examine long-held beliefs and occasionally come across a widely-accepted idea or notion that is founded upon flawed or weak premises. I believe that MAY be the case with this issue. While I myself reserve judgment and do not claim to fully understand (or even remotely understand) the mind of my Creator, I do ask questions from time-to-time, and occasionally even challenge a traditionally long-held belief.
The point is, make up your own mind. Not just about this either. It is a healthy and liberating exercise to develop a belief system in which those things that a given person accepts as fact have been questioned and then questioned some more prior to achieving that status. The wise man is he who is humble enough to accept his own limitations and the possiblity that he might be wrong, for it is that man who routinely challenges his beliefs, and therefore truly thinks for himself.
